Pancetera, developers of technology for the protection of data in virtualized and cloud environments, this week unveiled new software for replication of virtual machines to a local or cloud storage apparatus.
The new product, SmartMotion, is a virtual appliance which replica virtual machines directly to a target NAS physical or cloud in a single step, said Jeff Drescher, Vice President of marketing for Pancetera based in Santa Clara, California.
SmartMotion takes many steps in the process of backup and replication, said Drescher.
He said "virtual machines today are generally first saved on an intermediate server, while physical machines are backed up on a separate infrastructure". "This creates a complex environment for customers who want to virtual and physical machines backed up on a common infrastructure."
SmartMotion virtual appliances, however, send data backup both physical and virtual machines to any NAS target device, if a physical device on the spot or a virtual appliance in the cloud, Drescher said.

Solution providers or FSC can use of Pancetera SmartMotion technology to offer clients the opportunity to recover their physical or virtual machines in a cloud of a few minutes, said Drescher. They can also sell SmartMotion as a complementary service, as a disaster recovery service regardless of which backup technologies are used
SmartMotion is currently available and promotion at a price of $499 the socket server or $ 99 machine virtual. Drescher said that price is good until the end of this quarter, and that the price after the quarter ends will depend on customer uptake of the product.
