Japan cabinet approves disaster recovery budget - Straits Times

(TOKYO - Japanese cabinet Friday approved a supplementary budget of four billion yen (e) S $ 60 billion) for the reconstruction of areas devastated by last month's earthquake and tsunami, local media said.

Plans of the cabinet of Prime Minister Naoto Kan to submit budget to Parliament on 28 April, to pass through May 2 with the support of the opposition, which controls the upper House.

It was the first supplementary budget approved by the Government since the disaster struck northeast of the Japan, leaving people more than 27 000 dead or missing, and chilling nuclear reactors. -AFP
